Neither would I, unfortunately that's not what communism is.
First stage communism, socialism, ... always seems so harmless;, a little more government and little less liberty -- seems so innocent and that's why Hitler was voted into power, so too Chavez, ...,
...and Stalin certainly never went from 0 to despot overnight.
As Bastiat described they're".. basically the same plant in three different stages of its growth." ... like a plant it takes time to blossom to full despotism.
The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum
"They came first for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time no one was left to speak up."
It's easy to look back and criticize history, and say why didn't anybody stop the Nazis, why did UK, etc. not intervene when x, y, z asked for assistance.
Hence any undermining of civil liberties is bad; and laws should only be used to protect society from injustice and never should be used for justice; because those who think they're the right people to determine what is just are the last ones a non naive society should trust with that power.
