Saw soooo many signs advertising a recently opened shop supplying accessories for adults on the way back to Beatty House yesterday evening. 😲
Looked as though they assumed that passers-by needed a reminder every 50 meters or so. Someone who is making a stack of money off of the proceeds approved the construction of large advertising posts and boards on islands in the road around town. Just what drivers need...

it is disgusting how much of that is out there.
if the logic is that ads showing smokes should be banned because it exposes children then should the same not apply for sport betting? and booze for that matter?
I have horror stories from my time in the finance industry seeing people spend the entire salary to betway/hollywoodbets/bet365. I am talking as soon as the salary comes in there is a transaction for the full salary amount to the sport betting site. was at something like 1.3% of one of the banks that we handled's customers placing bets like that causing debit orders to bounce that same night. and its manual transactions by the user not something automated or physhing from the sites we investigated for that.

Yeah gambling is a hell of a thing and I say this as someone who loves gambling, I have heard many stories from my time working in casino industry people losing plenty money.

One thing I am grateful for is I never took a liking to sport betting or online gambling or I would be one of those people.

I am old school casino gambler.

Governments changed, the country changed, but the old ways still remain.
Just like my father-in-law that blew his whole salary on booze every month, leaving my mother-in-law to make do with the little she earned.
Stupid is what stupid does... and god there's an awful lot of stupid people in this country.
On the other end of the spectrum you get those that are well connected ANC chommas... nothing like R500k here, and R1.1m there to someone who
is actually unemployed. SARS doesn't do a thing, but we as finance people need to check for money laundering.

Then there's the up-and-coming trick, saying the ATM dispensed short and raising a dispute. That's on the rise as they wisen up about that one.

As I alluded to in another post... working in the financial industry made me physically sick. I am so, so glad to be working with my hands again.

The same for people squandering their social grants on things like the national lottery.

Yup, my former employer made a handsome profit on that facility- actually it began in 2015 already at other companies I worked at, all trying to get in on that action.

On the gambling, Derivco made themselves stupidly rich on that front. Even had the balls to get MyBroadband to do a smart advert about how "wonderful" their offices are and how nice they treat their staff a few years back... which is BS of course, all carrot dangles to get maximum blood out of the flesh.

On DSTV, besides DSTV pimping itself, every 6-10 minutes its a LottoStar ad, and of course these gambling companies "sponsoring" shows.
Since we're speaking of these things, its a mighty frustrating thing for me to deal with, how utterly stupid the population of this country is most of the time. Empty vessels, with nothing between the ears, and IQ in the range of 80-90.

How many people still can't use the EskomSePush app and will ask on WhatsApp community groups "when is the power going out again?"
Ever seen how many people cannot use an ATM? Sure there's less of them nowadays but you still see it.
Cannot do an EFT as an EFT is above the pay grade but will inconvenience you by paying via cash send, which costs you money and time to go get the money from an ATM.
This is why the ANC gets away with what it does... because the average South African will just roll over and take it, because the next payday is coming and Hollywood Bets has a new massive jackpot. And the local liquor store has a special on Brandy and Coke.
Live for payday and worry about the babelaas later... No ambition fuck all interest and just wastes of space

We have load limiting in my area now.

It doesn't have any impact on me as I now know how to manage the household power consumption.

Its scary how many people just don't get it though. They could afford to have a solar/backup system installed but never went to the trouble of actually understanding what said system does.

So my general assumption is that they all still have default settings on their inverters with battery charge up at 100% for 24 hours a day. Load limiting kicks in and the systems persist in keeping those batteries full so the 30 minute shedding is triggered. This drains the battery some more and when power comes back they now draw even more power to charge.

And then the groups start going crazy.

Mmm, I can see how that could be a problem.

Seemed normal when a friend was watching sport, ramped up when the team playing was sponsored by the company. The SuperSport one was weird though.

At least TV is some what regulated unlike some of the ads I’ve seen on YT.

If there is something on YouTube I want to watch, I use 4K video downloader so that I don't have to see all of those inane mobile game advertisements.

People are getting dumber EVERYWHERE.

SA is not an island.
SA is not an island, but I wouldn't want to go on about the Yanks now, it would just make me depressed and then I have to pop more pills to cope with the sad state of the world.
