All major countries are not stupid enough to enact laws that treat people like juvenile delinquents.

No, you forgot option 3.

Your convenience doesn't mean it's permissible to drink and drive. It's something that has to be taken more seriously in SA, and "but I want to drink in a restaurant and then drive home because it's the most convenient way to travel" doesn't cut it as a reason.

PS

All major countries have already "stupidly" enacted laws that make drunk driving a serious offence, its certainly not as culturally accepted as it is by a lot of people in SA, you're a prime example.
