I don't put faking an illness to get out of a debate past cadet bonespurs. However there are several reasons I am quite sure Drumpf has kung flu:
Firstly despite evident severity the White House are playing hush down and lying. The White House has facilities to self isolate and to enable even reasonably severe symptoms to be treated without leaving the premises. Moving somebody to a quad hospital is to get them closer to specialists because complications are presenting.
Secondly there are a cluster of infections around orangeskin.
Expect lots of lying and misinformation, it's quite possible that dumpty will come out quickly and strongly after all the amount of focus and access to experimental treatments is staggering but don't be surprised if things go silent for several hours and then uncertainty of whether there was a sudden cardiac episode or some other "unexpected". Until the 20th January expect anything of drumpf being forced by self created circumstances to do something extraordinary.

The narrative they want to pump out is that he is getting the best treatment to get back to hard work. The evidence leaking is that they are panicking at the prospects of a prolonged and frustrating prolonged containment period - trump gets volitile when couped up - and are prepared to risk an escalated decline.

Not sure how the drive around supports the idea that it's fake. What it reinforces is the case that Trump contracted the virus which has produced moderate symptoms that are being downplayed and that he is still reacting by ignoring best practice and instead being juiced up with steroids and the like in order to appear strong. The result is that he might recovery quickly as a result of aggressive treatment and access to healthcare resources that are unsurpassed but the result could also be grim. There are reasons the sort of treatment given here isn't the norm one is simple health care worker supply limits and the another is risks. In this case its damn likely that the additional risks being created means putting more strain on availability of specialists - Trump is at Walter Reed because of the available specialists not because of equipment - which the White House has.
I feel incredibly sorry for the doctors involved as Trump is an ethics violation machine and while doctors frequently have to deal with weighing patient wishes and behaviour against best treatment few patients are this obnoxious and so "do no harm" is an impossible standard to adhere to.
