This surge is freaking my wife out.
In a week's time she'll be on a plane, but she's really worried about catching this thing and testing positive so she can't fly.

And of course there's all the pressure to see friends and family to say goodbye.

Gonna be a long week...

Another negative consequence of Draconian COVID measures... is that a lot of businesses went belly up, or had to downsize / retrench staff, also general employment has all but dried up, and as expected crime has been ticking up quite drastically... we alone have had 2 break-in attempt this week alone; gates damaged; required repairs (some welding) and one needed a new lock.

Fortunately our alarm siren and automated armed response was triggered shortly after they breached the farm perimeter on both occasions, so nothing more than minor damages were the end result.

Our neighbouring farms did not fair so well this past week:
  • Incident 1: a fridge and washing machine were stolen, and an exterior wall was badly damaged; damaged estimate: +-R16,000
  • Incident 2: a venter trailer was stolen, and again an exterior wall was badly damaged; damaged estimate: +-R100,000
  • Incident 3: a break-in at a wooden cottage style house caused a gas leak and eventual explosion, burning the house down to a crisp -- it appears the burglars were trying to steal the connected kitchen gas stove at the time; damaged estimate: > R200,000
Naturally the costs don't stop there, because to avoid more break-ins; we all have to spend quite a bit of toughing up our perimeter security; in the hope they more on to other easier venues -- combined estimate for 4 farms exceeds R150,000; fortunately my costs are far less as I previously invested heavily on security.

The armed response guys were fortunately on the ball, and in all cases they arrived on scene within 5 to 10 minutes.

As south africans we are all aware of the crime situation, which was bad before covid. So why are you posting this?

So nothing changed because of COVID, no business closures, no retrenchments, no increased unemployment, no increased crime, no inflation, etc.
-- and your proof of this is exactly what? Oh wait never mind you guys don't like reality...

Ps. so is this now also earmarked for your philosophy trash bin? ...because for you and the rest of the draconian government overreach loving bunch... it's all normal... just another average day in SA.

Is that the limit the of your reality... quite pitiful if so...
...is it simply because you agree with the draconian measures, and hence you refuse to acknowledge any of the negative consequences of that... because the same ANC that has plundered state coffers for 25+ years and almost bankrupted everything it touched is now supposedly an angel when it comes their draconian rules...

Those are your words.

I didn't offer an opinion.

From Monday 31 May to Saturday 5 June, just over 300,000 people were vaccinated. (Very few people are being vaccinated on the weekend). At this pace, it will take about three weeks to use up the unused vaccines that are already in the country. Yet every week, an additional 636,480 doses of Pfizer arrive at OR Tambo Airport. To use up the vaccines that are already available and to use new supplies over the next two weeks, we need to more than triple our current rate of vaccination to one million doses per week.

And yet I get a Whatsapp on the local councillors group saying that the planned opening of more vaccination centres in the Overstrand is being delayed due to a shortage of vaccines? Alan Winde also said something similar on KFM news this morning about the low number of vaccines available and they are waiting for more to hit the targets.

Bad night.

Lost one person who we work with on a regular basis.

Close colleague who has been in ICU for 10 days now on a ventilator has developed a tear in his lungs so the air is escaping. Up to 100% oxygen. Dr's can't operate to repair so it has to heal itself. Message from his wife is basically that they don't know if he'll make it through the night.

Rest of the cases I know of in our office are on the mend though so that counts for something.
