Why not wait until they need replacing? Sure mercury isn't the best thing to keep in your mouth due to toxicity and visually looking kak, but drilling them out releases mercury...

Site visit end of the week for full solar quote. At this stage it's not even really about LS but the price of electricity, I suspect I can pay it off in five years by paying roughy what I pay now anyway (or a bit more) and thereafter electricity is free. A no brainer.

This is a rough calc based on my usage and expected increases (note it excludes infrastructure charges). Need to also go solar geyser but that's a fraction of the solar electric cost.
solar geyser dropped my usage by close to 40%

I meant the installation cost. Solar geyser is cheapest and has most impact.

I had 3300W nominal. That was good for 20kwh/day in summer and about 12 in winter. So it will depend on what your consumption is - and also, what your battery capacity is.
