Having thinkpads at work, super disappointed in their last few years. If non-P series they are all insane in throttling for coding, and video calls with multiple people are bad. They're designed at like 15-20W throttling after 10s for a 28W CPU, halves the performance to crap, even in performance mode. This is with a: T15 (gen 1 and 2 I think), T16 (1270P). The P15v is a lot better, their 45W configs.

Note though that up until recently, there was a shortage for thinkpads, still a shortage on the P series.

I'd probably just buy a cheaper laptop at half the price, then another in 5 years, not worth it since warranty in South Africa sucks, besides Lenovo throttling, and the P series you're not gaming, so why pay the premium?

Wootware also sells them as an aside.
I’ve been using the X series since 2008. Might switch to T series.

I am also on a Thinkpad for work now.
also not a fan.
I think the Dell XPS series is just a better buy. my boss just upgraded to one and it is much better. less tearing on large video calls, Wi-Fi is more stable with less dropping. and battery life is insane.
because we don't pay for them I cant really comment on the cost unfortunately.
I would stick to dell or HP and try and stay in the enterprise grade rather than go enterprise in lenovo.
my personal laptop is also a lenovo but that is a completely different thing with a very different use and specs.
From experience over many years I've grown to prefer certain brands that just work for me, such as Salomon boots, G-Star pants, Toyota cars, Apple iPhone and ... Lenovo Thinkpad laptops. Sure there may be better options from time to time but these have never let me down.

I can agree on Salomon.

Pants I dont look at the label. its not something that has ever appealed to me.

I dislike the apple eco system because they are riding innovation that happened 10 years ago and apply social pressure to bully people into the brand (with iMessage) I re-evaluate all phones every time I upgrade. I go in with a neutral view and look at what the device offers. I am not loyal to a brand I am always open to the best option. and the last time iPhone was best option was with the iPhone 4s. every year since then there has been better offers from other brands.

I feel with cars again there is a brand tax applied that inflates the price for no real gain. you want to rather get the brand that is on the bubble of breaking into the area where there is a brand loyalty about 2 years before the brand tax starts applying to them. that was true for Hyundai then it moved to Kia. not sure where that point is with cars at the moment but both the ones I mentioned have crossed the threshold and are no longer the correct ones to buy.

I get what you mean about the ThinkPad series, they were very good. but the past 4 or so years the brand has started putting out too much low quality stuff and the ThinkPad line has suffered as a result.

What I can say that I also know you will do is go read reviews and look at other options before you buy. no point in having something that leaves you with regrets just because you are loyal to a brand. Brands are not loyal to customers so dont be blinded by that.

Farningham Ridge? :oops::oops:

You know that area was already a relatively high crime area back in the 80's/90's. I'd not expect it to have got any better since then...
I do not know the area - I just know I love the whole Pinetown area. Had the pleasure of staying in the area few times now and I am blown away by the beauty. But I am not in the position to move - just really loved the look of this place

The earliest citation that I know of of the current usage of the phrase, that is, "there are three kinds of falsehoods, lies, damned lies and statistics" is from Arthur James Balfour, 1st Earl of Balfour, as quoted in the Manchester Guardian, 29th June 1892:

“Professor [Joseph] Munro reminded him of an old saying which he rather reluctantly proposed, in that company, to repeat. It was to the effect that there were three gradations of inveracity - there were lies, there were d-d lies, and there were statistics."

I plan to drive to Swellendam and have a whisky with my 91 year old friend there. She hosts a whisky night every Wednesday.

What is on yours?

I used to take graphology seriously, so when I read that smart people tend towards tiny handwriting, I changed mine to the extent that some other people found it illegible. This ended in my early to mid-twenties.

Seriously cold here, thank goodness this house has a fireplace. That creates heat I might add, I’ve had fireplaces that just don’t really heat the house.

Reviews don’t cover the ‘just works’ experience. If you want that TrackPoint that’s why you’re buying it.
There’s no regret in buying something that you want, but if it doesn’t work then you’d find another brand like Louis Rossmann did with the Framework Laptop.

Good website to buy Lenovo Thinkpads from? I see Pinnacle is a reseller, will check if we are still dealers (like ten years later), the rest are retail.
If you don’t mind demo/refurb/sometimes new
Dude is a reseller on carb

With WhatsApp going down, I wonder how long before platforms abandon Twitter for info updates because you can’t view them without an account.
