My latest (non winter) bill is R1,200 just for usage (excluding "infrastructure" charges).

2021: R1,200 x 12 = R14,400
2022: (+15%) R1,380 x 12 = R15,560

To answer my own question, found your quote and it was 6 x 300W = 1,800W.

I'm looking at 6 x 540W = 3,240W.

I breeze through loadshedding with my setup and it’s less than the one you are looking at with a 5kw battery and the panels above as you mention.

As to the question of whether the one 5.5kw battery is enough, if it’s just as a loadshedding beater then I have a 4 bed house with 2 big fridges and all the other mod cons, and during daytime even with the washing machine on the battery barely drips below 99% on a sunny day.

If it’s cloudy then it I reckon it might hit 50% at the end of the 2 hour 30 minutes stint, but even then it’s usually far above.

Do me a favour and send me your quote and installer details? I need to set something up on the new place and that battery and inverter of yours is what I have in mind.

So maybe I can get away with just 4 x 540W then.

Mind you I've been getting pricing from

Ryan did that install for them. Looks good. My plan was to buy the main parts and then get him to install it.

That's not mine, it's an example of the installer I am engaging with. Still trying to figure out the exact configuration and then pricing. But I am now convinced it makes financial sense to go solar. I predict breakeven in FIVE years. Then free electricity.
You’ll be way ahead in happiness from day one.

Don’t skimp on the panels - they’re the cheapest part of the system and it’ll be a pain (and extra cost) to get the installer back later to add a couple more. Bite the bullet and stay with your plan.

Did a lot of searching. Got many quotes
Had this installed today. And just as we had everything in and testing - the entire area went out. So here I sit - with power that will last about 10 hours with everything I have running.
This is not a house solution - just my office

Just in time then.
That should work very nicely, enjoy.

Looking at my usage here. My SA system would have taken me completely off grid. I'm averaging 8kwh per day

I'm just under 20 kWh a day. So doable too. Now that I've delayed the apartment purchase, I am very keen on proceeding with this.

Ignore the mess of other cables - still sorting everything in the office out. I will hide it neatly eventually.

Is it just me, I don’t see any pics?
Can't see them on Chrome or FF.
Having the same issue with satan's pictures in the chat, but those work if open in new tab. These in this chat do not.
Post 209 loads though, just not the cables one:

@Tribs you shared them directly from Google Photos so they are stuck behind an authentication layer.

That’s why you can see them because you are logged into your Google account.

You’d either need to make a shared link from Google Photos for them or first save them elsewhere and then share/upload.
