The space-age "Round House" was conceived by the architect Richard Foster, once a student of Philip Johnson. Accessed from a spiral staircase in the structure's pedestal-like base, the motorized Round House rotates 360 degrees, offering a perpetually changing view of the surrounding Connecticut landscape from its floor-to-ceiling windows. The house takes about 45 minutes to complete a full circle. 1968 photo by Ezra Stoller.

In 1962, architect John Lautner designed this home in the Hollywood Hills for Russell Garcia, a composer for films like The TIme Machine (1960) and tv shows like Rawhide and Laredo. The house's unusual elliptical shape is echoed in the shape of the swimming pool. (Photo by Roger Davies)
