    Wonderbags - anyone use one?

Yeah this thought occurred to me as well. If it's warm for extended periods, that sounds like a bacteria breeding ground. I'd imagine that to use it as intended, your pot would need to be boiling, but the insulation should be good enough to keep the temp at above 60 or so for several hours? I...

    Wonderbags - anyone use one?

So a friend of mine has been banging on about this thing: https://www.takealot.com/wonderbag-non-electric-portable-slow-cooker-large-traditional-bl/PLID42161285 He reckons it saves him tons of electricity. Does anyone use one? I think it's a neat idea, but has anyone used one of these in practice?

    Recent tech purchases

Recently got one of these: https://www.wootware.co.za/lg-27ul500-w-27-uhd-4k-3840x2160-60hz-5ms-ips-amd-radeon-freesync-hdr10-desktop-monitor.html Short review: I like it a lot. Picture quality is quite good. Stand is a bit wobbly. I'm not a gamer though, I'm told that it's not great for...

Interesting. I wonder if that's a setting that you can change. Will bear it in mind for when my venerable HD202s finally give up.

What are you eating just now?

I am somewhat more familiar with bread techniques than I was before lockdown - I have a few pretty decent loaves that I've done over the past little while. Just finished eating this one today: I have never tried rolls though. I have an idea that hamburgers with home-made rolls would taste better.

What are you eating just now?

Did you make the ciabatta yourself? I have been wondering how hard it would be to actually make bread-roll type things. I've gotten fairly good at loaves of bread now.

My brother has the wireless version of these. G735 I think. He swears by them. Was fairly tempted by the Sennheiser. Don't need surround though, only stereo, so the 300 would prolly be fine for me. Apart from being too small for your ears, how was it?

Parenting toddlers - the pleasure and the pain

Thanks for all the feedback! This really resonated with me, thanks. I'll admit that in a sense, lockdown has been helpful in this regard as we have seen so few other families since he turned 1 (just before the lockdown started) that there's nothing to make a comparison with. I also...

Parenting toddlers - the pleasure and the pain

We do have a routine something like that, and it works (roughly) most nights. But then once the little boy is in bed, I just about always collapse as well because I'm exhausted. Come on, I'm 33, I shouldn't be going to bed at 20:30!

Parenting toddlers - the pleasure and the pain

I have an 18-month-old boy who is a non-stop delight. It's not the delight part that's the problem. It's the non-stop part. How does any normal human being actually successfully get a child past the toddler stage without collapsing or going mad? We have another one on the way, due in January...

What are you eating just now?

Yeah I was going to say, if the gluten is just removed, then your bread will be a solid lump. @satanboy have you tried sourdough? I am under the impression that the fermentation aids digestion of the gluten for those who are intolerant.

What are you eating just now?

But... why? Gluten is the thing that makes bread good!

Fixed deposits offshore aren't really worth much. Interest rates are low everywhere. Any idea what to do with offshore cash?

    Work-from-home ergonomics

Good point about posture. It's not so much my posture that's the problem but the angles my arms make. This is actually a pretty good point. I sit at a straight desk, but I do find that curved ones throw me out. So there's 60cm in-between my two arm-rests. It feels wide to me but I haven't been...
