Saw someone mention Grotto, which I never knew existed before, so I thought I'd share my experience here as a warning to others.
Background: I've been reading the MyBroadband COVID threads on and off since last year, but never made an account before.
So finally decided to make an account this week to give my input in a couple threads. Answered a bunch of questions people asked me... Posted a documentary I thought some would be interested in (which turned out many were)...
Then today I randomly got banned for reason: "spam" and all my posts were deleted.
Anyone who read my posts could see they were all high quality and nothing that could have been considered "spam". I avoided involving myself in other peoples conversations, never started any off topic discussion in any thread, and mostly just responded to those who addressed me.
Naturally I assumed this had to be a mistake made by a moderator... Maybe I was spam-reported by someone who disagreed with my opinion?
It said that I must contact the administrator if I believe the ban was an error, but I couldn't find any contact form or email address to use. So I registered a temp account and sent bwana a private message explaining all this, and asked him to please review the ban at his earliest convenience, as he will be able to see that nothing I posted could be considered "spam". I also said that if the ban is kept, I would appreciate at least being told what content I posted was the "spam"... When I checked back later, I found the temp account banned for reason "clone of banned user".
This confirmed that it was not a mistake, and I was banned under false pretense of "spam" to censor something the admins don't agree with.
Either they didn't like the highly credible scientists I cited in 2 of my posts, or they banned me because one of their troll friends didn't like that I was speaking too much sense, and since I did nothing wrong, they had to fabricate a fake reason to ban me.
I've seen many people theorizing about conspiracies of usernames being "clones" over the past year... What my own experience has made me realize, is the MyBroadband moderators have been falsely banning new users all the time for fake reasons, and that makes everyone else think that the banned users are "clone accounts", which fuels their conspiracies about new users who join the forum for the first time.
I wonder how long this has been going on now, and how many other new users have been falsely banned.
I hope that my story is useful to some people, and helps make more sense of what they are seeing happen on the other forum.
