Once. At that Mavericks in fact. Was around 2010. First thing I did was to knock a full glass of beer onto my crotch. Needless to say I wasn't really in the mood from then on. My colleagues went for lap dances but were really to drunk to remember. I declined due to my wet pants.

Must say I found the whole experience very un-sexy. Girls doing dance moves to a pole really doesn't do it for me.

Mavericks as a strip club is just a bad experience all together ( to be fair all strip clubs are), went once for a Bachelor's we left not long after as it was just not pleasant and booze was ridiculous.

Ooops.

Male staff at work were emailed an invitation to attend a performance by an exotic dancer :p
The entire staff were invited to a performance by an exotic dancer, in the bar, by the ladies in an advertising agency I worked in ages ago. One of them was leaving and I guess they thought it a joke. My boss stated, "I hope she doesnt have pimples on her arse"

It got very .. erm.. very "steamy" when she was shooting dildos out her vagina in front of a mixed crowd.

And, yes, she had pimples on her arse.

On the other hand, my friend hired a Rasputin's girl to be eye candy at an event. I was working backstage and had an opportunity to talk with her. She was from Poland and doing a PhD, stripping in RSA was a way to fund that. I only spoke to her for around 15 minutes, but she was really pleasant and obviously really intelligent.

I can't recall what her PhD was in... which makes me stupider than a stripper.

Were you able to ascertain that she is better at your job and hobbies than you are?

I have a hierarchy when it comes to doctorates. 🥴

Shame, housemate’s brother in NZ has long covid (brain fog, exhaustion etc.) and is worried he’s going to get fired due to his work performance (he’s an attorney). He was vaccinated.

The first or second stripper?

The first was not great.

The second, well, her job was to look beautiful, and not remove her clothes. She did that pretty well. My job was to run the graphics (aka VJ) which I did adequately. So she did a better but far easier job than I did.

There's a youtuber I follow - makes science videos (or used to). Hope she eventually gets back to it

She's down badly with long covid - it's been months. She can't get out of bed at the moment, can't even feed herself.

Ever go to The Gel in the mid 90’s? I wrote the VJ software they used.

Definitely the second. What does "running the graphics" involve.

Share the hierarchy?
I have a cheek to be saying this, given that I could only make it as far as a matric certificate [B-aggregate] ☺️

Bottom: Theology
Top: Mathematics, physical and biological sciences - also the computer stuff
Everything in between: The Arts [languages, all of the art stuff, history, literature]

This is an emotional thing, and says more about how much regard I have for religion than anything else.
I go the impression that there is a big jump between school and university.

I probably don't know what I am talking about.🤪

Pretty much agrees with my own hierarchy.

Basically you have a laptop, a projector and bootleg software that allows you to sync moving graphics to the music, either automatically or manually. I preferred the manual method, so I had a huge library of short (like 5 seconds) video or animated gifs.

You project either onto a screen behind the stage, reversing the image if necessary. Or you have two projectors and project onto screens on either side of the stage. Or you are much more of an expert that I ever was and your software supports "projection mapping" which means a single projector is capable of projecting different images to different surfaces and screens and just blackness in between them. Lots of this at modern Electronic Dance Festivals.

I took a slightly more luddite version, for example, my then-gf and I interspersed the video samples with real-time video of us in lab coats and aprons doing amateur science experiments. And at one party I baked hot cross buns live, in amongst the the other projected graphics and gave them to the crowd. I had a rig with 3 cameras, two computers, a small oven and a board to knead the dough on.

I am probably the exception to the normal VJs, though.

It's kind of part of the lighting crew.

I was in Zim in the 90s.

I used bootleg copies of Resume, which is actually excellent software. I would pay for it these days, but then I could not get close to affording it.

Was early days… Windows 3.11, VB3, framegrabber with three inputs, typically two VCRs and a camera with images and various timing effects with chroma and luma masks. Was an MDMA and LSD club so was pretty trippy. We even did a webcast in 1995 using a second PC. Think three people saw it.

The UI back then:

It sounds like a turbocharged version of the Milkdrop visualiser plugin for for WinAmp. I wonder how many other VJers wnet to the trouble of adding a personal touch?
