KTM powered advanced riding school

Public · Hosted by David Enticott and WPMC Motorcycle Section

Saturday, 23 January 2021 from 08:00-13:30 UTC+02
4 days from now · 17–24°C Partly cloudy

Killarney International Raceway
6 Potsdam Road Table View, 7441 Cape Town, South Africa

Killarney International Raceway’s first Motorcycle Track School for 2021 will be run on Saturday 23 January from 9:00am to 2:00pm. Powered by KTM Cape Town, it is open to riders of all makes of motorcycles who want to improve their riding skills up to a standard of excellence, rather than down to a speed limit.

Track schools are not just for superbike enthusiasts; no matter what you ride, you will take away potentially life-saving lessons in hard braking and accurate placement on the road, with input from experienced road and racing instructors in a safe and controlled environment, while enjoying your motorcycle in the manner it was intended to be ridden.

I was in a bar yesterday, and spotted something odd during some random bike race (Doha?). When big sport racing bikes turn a corner, they do that knee-down thing that is the quintessential motorbike race pic.

I want to know about a maneuver almost every rider did when entering a corner.

Let's say the guy is on a left turn. He's traveling at about 250km/h.

1) he leans slightly left, the bike starts to turn
2) he extends his left leg, as if to dismount or save himself from a fall
3) he appears to touch the tar with his left foot
4) he places his foot back on the pegs,
5) he drops his knee and leans into to the curve
6) he almost climbs off the bike on the left side to lean into the curve
7) recovery, and onto the next turn

I get the lean into the curve and the throwing body to put the weight on the inside.

But what is the guy doing with his foot in steps 2 & 3 at 250km/h when mostly upright as he goes into the curve? Does he touch the tar? Is this a weight-shift thing?

I am with @Sinbad on the drag to help slow down by moving up.
I have also noticed the foot thing but have no idea why it gets done or how it helps.

Beautiful industrial design, but really doesn't look like a comfortable ride.

That front rim looks very familiar, I just can’t put my finger on it exactly.

I want to say Ducati but maybe MV Augusta.
