Isn't there an Apple keynote address tonight?

No idea. Maybe?

Is this not just a Covid-19 bandwagon feature?

Don’t see what it has to do with Covid.

The hand washing is the only Covid feature I can think of and it’s pretty useful at that (have used it for a few weeks already).

There was something else I thought must be quite new or a first but can’t recall now what it was.

Oxygen levels is a way to check if you should have a covid test. It's also used to monitor your health while infected. You can buy a gadget from Takealot. But this is likely the reason I'd buy a Watch. Still incremental improvements. Like I said, no innovation.

So if nobody else has done it in a watch yet how is it not innovation?

Apple will always be incremental, that’s their entire business model. So expect to be disappointed forever.

First hit on google, no idea if it's any good. But as we know Apple doesn't invent, they iterate.

No indication there that it does anything special but I’ll take your word for it.

But yes, Apple are specialists of taking existing ideas and doing them properly so even if it’s not a first I couldn’t be bothered.

It’s not like I was going to buy anyone else’s shit product anyway.

Is there another watch that does bloody oxygen levels?

Also the iPad handwriting to digital conversion shit while not new I’ve never seen done so slick, but of course real world may be a different story.

My big disappointment is the lack of FaceID on the new iPad Air. I was really hoping for a “last years iPad Pro” for a better price kind of thing and it’s somewhat that but I just can’t see myself living without FaceID.

So guess I’ll wait another generation before I upgrade from my iPad 2.

****

Besides inventing new shit just for the sake of saying it’s new makes it utterly pointless.

You still using an iPad2? What iOS version are you running and for what purpose do you use it? I thought they were pretty useless now.

USB C on both sides is useful so you can charge on either side. Issue is if you have USB A peripherals, but most should only have one set of mouse and keyboard, so one dongle you leave at home since you're probably not traveling with your peripherals while using one.

This is what pisses me off about Apple, and believe me I have probably as much if not more Apple gear than most, but they often force people to make concessions and cut corners to use their products. I hated the 2 USB C slots side by side and using an adaptor or dongle to use a USB A stick is ridiculous when 99% of the world still use them.

If you live in the US or Europe where wireless transfer and streaming everything is fairly normal, then fair enough. But in South Africa and the 3rd world places I tend to find myself working it doesn't work for me, so I'm not going to shoehorn an Apple product into my life just because they deem 2 USB C ports a ball hair apart suits them.

Nah don’t really use it much outside of Netflix and Plex.

Think it’s still on iOS7.

Still works perfectly though, software support has just fallen on the wayside.

Why would you need a dongle for a mouse and keyboard? It should be Bluetooth.

But yeah one single old school port would have been nice.

Then again when my Yubikey gets changed for a USB-C one I’ll have no need for anything else.

Must be honest, really like the specs on this new iPad Air. I can really see myself getting one... hopefully it's going to come in at under R15k...

The iPad 2 was pretty slow in use years ago, I'd hate to be using one now.

Yeah look it’s by no means fun but it still works and lives on my desk so does the odd bit of YouTube etc.

Because I don't like charging things.
There's also a R1000 difference for the privilege of not having a cable

Then get me a wireless Cherry MX Browns.

And then wireless interference at times.

I got the G602 wireless from Amazon for R737 last year. Replace two AA batteries every 6 months.

Charging is so infrequent an issue that I forget it’s even a thing.

Couldn’t imagine going back to something with wires again.

That's quite a bit lower dpi, I adjust my dpi frequently depending on what I'm doing, I usually use 400, 2000 and 8000.
I do notice the difference with a higher polling rate as well, also noticeable battery life difference if plugged into the laptop, I usually swap profiles when on battery.

If charging the mouse was once every few weeks, I wouldn't care, but the price difference doesn't make it worth it to me. All my stuff is plugged into the monitor anyways, there's just one plug into my laptop (besides ethernet), so really doesn't matter.
