So big tech now gets to threaten governments and win. Pathetic Australia.

Facebook said Tuesday it will lift a contentious ban on Australian news pages, after the government agreed to amend a world-first law requiring tech giants to pay media companies.

Treasurer Josh Frydenberg and Facebook said a compromise had been reached on key aspects of the law, which was fiercely opposed by the tech companies.

People still use Facebook?
I have an account with zero friends and zero posts. Some things you want to see requires an account or it nags you incessantly and blocks half the page repeatedly. So I don't "use" Facebook but I access it sometimes (e.g. Covid stats in the Overstrand).

One thing I couldn't understand why people were miffed (read really pissed off) that some govt fb pages happened to get blocked in this little tiff. Don't these govt entities have actual (real) web pages, that the doffies can get to?

The biggest issue here is how the law was to be implemented, small snippets to entice to link to the full thing should not have to be paid for.
A full-on summary, yes.
