It is with immediate effect until 22:00 tonight.

Area power outage update #3

The City has acted immediately to switch some of the affected customers to another supply area following the Eskom power line failure.

Areas 9 and 15 are thus now back on!

Unfortunately, Areas 7 and 2 are still out. As they are such large customer areas, no significant shifting of load is feasible.

We await Eskom’s feedback from its investigation.

The City has shifted a significant number of customers and continues to look at all options that can help, but urgent feedback is awaited from Eskom.

No estimated restoration time is currently available.

The City will update its customers again shortly.

Area power outage update #4
Areas 7 and 2 could have power supply within the next few hours, or sooner, if all goes according to plan.
Eskom has found the two high voltage power lines that tripped and caused the outage and they have been reconnected.
Eskom is energising these lines now.
The City will pick up the load and start reconnecting Areas 7 and 2.
The City will update its customers again shortly.
Thanks to our customers for the support! Thanks to Eskom and City teams for the urgent action taken thus far.

Area power outage update #5
The City is busy restoring power to Areas 7 and 2. They were affected by a large Eskom high voltage line power outage that occurred this afternoon.
Customers in these areas might notice their power come back on briefly, and off again.
This is due to tripping and is an expected occurrence after such a large outage.
Power will be restored soon to affected customers as the City continues the reconnection of customers area-by-area to avoid the system being overloaded and tripping.
Please note there is currently no load-shedding in City-supplied areas.
If there are areas beside Areas 7 and 2 where there are power faults, this is due to normal faults and teams are attending to it.
Thanks to our customers for the support! Thanks to Eskom and City teams for the urgent action taken thus far.
