I don’t know what I am to be fair. Left for some things and right for others.

Well it's very easy to determine if you speak to a liberal you are a far right conservative of you speak to a right wing person you are a leftie libtard.

But I don't like these designations as it has been perverted through the US politics so everyone tries to make things left or right.

People are more complex than that.

[)roi(] has left the building. He pm'ed me last night to say he can't take the "leftists" anymore and he's leaving and that I can delete his account. Told him to hang around but he declined. I then tried to solicit a donation but didn't get a reply. ;)

Think I'll follow the FB approach of account deletion and give him a few weeks to log in again.
Oh, no. How sad.

Perhaps he will take some time to consider why he "can't take the leftists" anymore, and whether the responses he gets are related to his own aggressively right wing bloviating or not.

Who knows? Perhaps he can escape that double-wall Dunlop wire-reinforced industrial rubber bubble he inhabits.

Late again! Damnit!

A social democrat has entered the chat.

Yeah, a lot of the left/right conversation is dominated by US politics where one side - the left - IMO generally see folks on the right as Americans stuck in a pre-civil rights mindset, while folks on the right see anyone left of the Cheneys as a demoncrat, child-trafficking, blood-drinking, and for the life of me I don't get, but, fascist.

One side is demonstrably trying to work with the other, while the other side would rather storm a capitol building to install a god-emperor to rule for a thousand years.

Folks on the right are in a media bubble of fear and resentment, and rather than traditional conservative platforms like small government, fiscal responsibility and such, the organising principle of modern conservatism is 'owning the libs'.

That it.

Owning the libs.

CRT is this year's Cultural Marxism; A boogeyman folks on the right can't define, but Tucker tells 'em it's bad, so they hate it.

On the other forum folks on the right have been asked to define CRT... It has not gone well... Posted this interaction to try help 'em, but I might as well be pissing in the wind with folks like droid.

He'll see the errors of his ways eventually. Painting with a too broad brush doesn't get you far.

Throwing the baby out with the bathwater and all that.

I’m not so sure, there’s a bitter group of people out there, everything that’s wrong with their life is the fault of the left, of democrats, of the anc, of black people, communists etc etc.

The only problem is that anyone even a fraction more centrist or less right wing then they are is a lefty or a communist or a democrat.

People can be misguided. They're still people.

Losing that perspective is the beginning of the end.

After AOC was elected in '18, Hannity presented this as her 'radical left' agenda:

ED5cNbBWsAEklRk

The folks who ree about that, call this, and I quote:

Insurrectionists 🤣

They were a bunch of yahoos who went to have their say, wrongly of course.

But insurrection was in no way on the cards, saying that is just stupid.

They took photos and souvenirs and left the building, insurrection.... hahahaha.

All this proves how much the hardcore left and hardcore right in SA have in common actually. The hardcore right are vocal in SA themed online communities about how intolerant the left is yet we see that exact same thing from them.

Sadly, it does seem that the hardcore-left and hardcore-right communities in SA are growing. We can even see it in politics as the two parties which were to the centre (ANC and DA) are taking stances to try and become more inclusive to the hardcore-left and hardcore-right respectively.

But it is also consistent with worldwide trends. People tend to gravitate to more hardline political stances when opportunities are scarce and economies are doing badly.

I've witnessed the exact same thing and you also get called an ANC/EFF apologist the moment you express any reservation about three groups in particular- the DA, VF+ or Afriforum.

Critical race theory is explicitly hostile to liberal norms and values, and in fact regards them as veneers for racism.

Lefties cry when people associate them all with Marxists and socialists, but then they go and run interference for Marxists and socialists while still expecting the outside observer to take them seriously about their commitment to liberalism (where liberalism means protecting the individual from the overreach of state authority). Hilarious.

No, what’s really hilarious, is falling so hard for Qanon that you lose a bet defending it and have to leave an online forum.

Oh hey, Xarog.

How you doin’, pal?

Triggered? Nah.

Can’t wait for us to catch up, and to see which batshittery is filling your sails now.

Okay, well, whatever the cause for the inanity is, when you have something to say that's actually relevant to the topic of critical race theory, let me know. :)

Edit: In case you missed it, my post contained a link to a page of Critical Race Theory, which is considered one of the authoritative works on the discipline, edited in part by Kimberle Crenshaw. I take it you don't really have anything to say about that...

Cool your engines, Xarog.

Had to scroll through twitter to find a gem of a tweet for your pre-edit post…

How are them apples for white supremacy in 8th grade Louisiana classrooms?

You think folk should maybe take a critical look at why secession and the civil war is taught like that?

What you are doing now is the equivalent of lionising Nazism because Hitler was a vegetarian. You don't get to only care about the stuff you think is good and ignore all the bad that comes with it.

I'm pretty sure you won't be able to elucidate why one needs CRT in order to come to the conclusion that the history courses in question are unreasonably partisan much like I can't explain why Nazism is necessary to endorse vegetarianism, which means you're introducing more off-topic red herrings into the discussion.

Really?

Sorry pal, but that textbook is a great example of white supremacy.

Our confederate Kate’s the “patriot” in this story. Those rascal Union soldiers caused the family to lose their property… you know… slaves. And tragedy of tragedies, they were expected to pay the freed people “high wages”.

What is a southern belle to do?

It’s revisionist bullshit with a pinch of libertarianism; sympathetic to slave owners and the confederacy ’cos the folks hawking it want to raise a generation sympathetic to a capitalist, racist power structure.

Folks should absolutely, positively take a critical look at the why it’s being taught that way.

The textbook I linked to? Or the red-herring you introduced? I don't see you explaining how you needed CRT to tell you it was white supremacy, so I'm guessing you didn't need it.

What does that have to do with CRT?
