It's not the vaccine I am concerned about, but the process of inoculation. If medical personnel with appointments were shown away how does that bode for normal citizens?
the real challenge with vaccination jabs is always in the jabs, lack of nurses who are proficient and accidents do happen.
However I don't think that the 1.1 million end of March target is impossible. The rate is at the moment around 10k people per day being vaccinated. The people being vaccinated include the people who will be performing the vaccination. Your private practice GPs can easily whack out 12 patients an hour and now that they've been vaccinated can be roped in with vaccination drives at schools and the like. The initial pilot stage that we can probably tick over to around 50k people vaccinated per day (so a 5 fold increase) by 10th of March which would mean 500k every 10 days
One challenge SA has to address properly though is the fact that the sooner people who want earlier access and will pay for it have an efficient channel that doesn't draw resources away from the balanced public health interest structure the sooner we will be able to speed up and make the public roll out more efficient.
If the hypochondriac can pay a grand to get vaccinated out of their own pocket and have their private practice GP perform the administration and the vaccines aren't coming through COVAX and the like. Hell there is a strong case to require anybody getting a boob job (the surgical kind) to pay extra to cover being vaccinated.
Rather than this insanity of stocking up on vet drugs we need people to be applying their money towards getting vaccines.
