I notice that the British Embassy is accepting visa applications from South Africa again after being closed for several months. Do they know something we don't know regarding flights starting up again? Not much point of a visa if you can't get there.

My friend's partner is a pilot for SAA. She is flying again. International flights. Has to be quarantined after each flight

Yeah, but South African airspace is closed for scheduled flights. The only flights in and out just now are cargo and government sanctioned repatriation flights.

No, there are even private planes arriving. Basically you need a letter from the Embassy saying its fine, you can come over to them etc
