I only do voice notes if I am driving and really need to say something or if I am drunk. And not been drunk for ages

It just annoys me because it can be time consuming to listen to. I don't mind it once or twice but some people literally send voice notes to every message which is a pet peeve of mine.

There are also some people who are loose cannons and don't stop talking so they give a lot of irrelevant info especially in my line of work.

Now that I think about it, maybe I just get more of these as well since they may suspect I could misrepresent them in some way (people in general don't have trust in media workers unless you get to know them and develop a sense of trust).
Unless the person is driving or there is something in the audio essential to the message - such as a way of pronouncing words or the like - I strongly dislike voice notes.

I'd rather get a text saying "good for voice?" and then a voice call. It also doesn't bother me if somebody says "going to be quicker to voice note this" because then I know what to expect. That's something I sometimes do. But at this point you are killing the interactiveness and the benefit of text chat communications. It's the same as sending videos on WhatsApp don't expect I'll watch it until I feel like it and am able to.

I can't listen to your voice note while in a meeting but I can see and reply to a text message.

For some people though there is this particular thril in voicenotes and they have an expectation that the person on the other end can magically drop whatever else is on and listen to them. This sort of behaviour is similar to the expectation that somebody must answer a phone call because you are in a position to make it.

I’m sorry but I don’t agree. If you’re not able to type a message you shouldn’t be fiddling with the phone in the first place.
Utterly disagree, typing means I need to look down, voice note I can start when it's safe to do so (e.g. red light) and talk without looking down, my car used to use the mic set up in it and audio was fine while I was looking at the road and talking.

You have hands free setups. And because voice notes are one directional they are safer for a person driving than a call. Of course a person undertaking an exchange of reading and replying with voice notes makes no sense but for example the security company patrol beat will put forward a note indicating that they are on the way to a scene or the like. It works like a push to talk walkie environment. The patrolman is able to convey information to whichever person of group.

- phone calls entail a person speaking and listening and is a more cognitively intensive exercise. This is why even where the radio technology allows full duplex, half-duplex remains a good operating procedure for situational communications.

SA law as far as I have it:
Regulation 308A stipulates that motorists may not drive on a public road while holding a mobile phone or any other communication device in one or both hands, or with any other part of the body.

Yes? You'll notice the term "holding" not "touching" hands free sets and integrated vehicle systems don't entail holding the device.

Couples that always flaunt their relationships on social media. I don't mind people doing this once in a while to show their affection to each other but social media has taken things to a whole new level as some post PDA several times a month.

For most it's a teenage and early 20s thing but some do persist in later phases of life as well.

In cases where they break up, you often notice that they remove the posts. For that reason, this is something that I can never bring myself to do. I also hate the thought of people gossiping and people almost certainly gossip when they see these kinds of posts yet many seem to enjoy posting them.

@scudsucker, this could also be linked to Instagram and depression. When teenage couples flaunt their relationship on social media, others who are not in relationships may feel left out and get depressed. At that age, you don't realize that relationships come with drama and will most often fail.
