is he allowed to get the medicine from a pharmacy or such for himself? what does his doctor say? Though I've been hearing lots of stories about the health care service in the UK. Now I understand better why they dont want to allow my mom in. Old age care sux.

It's a nanny state. You need a script for just about anything we, in ZA, can buy over the counter at self help. LoL, you're not even allowed to buy more than 1 pack of paracetamol at a time even. So you can't even buy your neighbour a pack if you need one yourself. Unless you drive to another store or pharmacy.

Anti inflammatory drugs. A big no-no. Here we can buy some schedule 2 drugs over the counter.

Bactroban or similar creams - not without a script.

My mother bumped her leg, and it formed a sore, so she went to dr, thinking they'd give her stuff to apply.
Oh no, she had to go in, three times a week for a nurse to change the dressing. And a sore that was the size of a 20c coin became the size of her palm (mom's hands are a little bigger than mine) over months. They were applying honey, then putting over some other thing, then closing it up.

Eventually stepdad came to ZA, for work, he bought some bactrobqn antibiotic cream. Mom used it for nearly 2 weeks and the sore on her leg sore healed in less than 2 weeks.

I bought germolene off the shelf, and can also buy two packs of ibuprofen from tesco any time.
Germolene is not on the same level as bactroban.

Ibuprofen is about at useless to me as paracetamol.

My brother is clearly quite ill and all they do is tell him to take paracetamol.

Also did not give him blood thinners. In ZA everyone that I've spoken to or read about, their dr prescribed blood thinners.

Bactroban is an antibiotic, many developed countries (UK, USA, AUS for example) have restricted it to prescription only due to possible antibiotic resistance from unnecessary use.

Also did not give him blood thinners. In ZA everyone that I've spoken to or read about, their dr prescribed blood thinners.

Blood thinners aren’t a recommended treatment for patients not considered serious enough for hospitalisation.
For COVID-19 patients at home, WHO suggests the use of pulse oximetry to measure oxygen levels in the blood. This needs to be coordinated with other aspects of home care, such as education for the patient and care provider and regular follow-up of the patient.

For hospitalized patients, WHO suggests the use of low dose anticoagulants for preventing the blood clots forming in blood vessels (thrombosis).

Lets not forget that there are SA doctors who are prescribing horse and sheep deworming medicine for Covid…

I did not use ivermectin.
People raved about it.

I read up on it and decided that ivermectin is not the right meds.

When specialist saw me the first time he asked about it. I said no. He said something about if I had it would have made his job more difficult

Bactroban - surely they could have applied that instead of fucking honey.
I use honey for an irritated throat, not bacteria eating the flesh making the sore larger.

While some ZA doctors do like dishing out meds like smarties our GP normally doesn't.
He put the other 2 on thinners. One had heart disprin other something else.

I got thinners via injection, but was based on daily blood tests. None to take home, again based on blood tests.

I can't take asprin to thin blood as it causes my nose bleed.

I was given cortisone in hospital via drip. Then tablets home. Tabs halved every 10 days.

Someone with extreme temps of 40 and above needs more than just basic paracetamol to kill the fever. Hell even if they made him go to hospital once a day to collect something so he can break/reduce his fever that night.

In hospital I was prescribed stillpane, S5. Many people suffer all kinds of pains as a result of covid. After high care I had some pains for a few days. So I took the painkillers as prescribed. After that I started to refuse it unless I was in pain. Nurses whined by dr. He asked them if I'm refusing the other meds. When they said no, he told them I can have pain meds on demand, when required.
I took most of it home.

Mr had a small op a few weeks ago. When the dr prescribed him that, he used what we all ready had, rather than buy more.

So yeah, it's easy to say blame the drs, but part of blame is also with the people.

Drs should not prescribe antibiotics for flu type illness unless it is obvious that there is a secondary infection.
