Something is wrong with the direction buttons on my PS4's controller. When I try to move down menu options in the system UI, it moves back up to the top again. I managed to get into a game menu, but there it just cycled up and down between starting a new game and resuming where I left off. Have any of you had this problem before? Did resolving it mean having to buy a new controller?

Have you tried switching it off and on? Seriously.

There ie diagnostic s/w available that you can use to test your controller on your PC.

Does it work properly anywhere else like on a PC or smartphone?

If not open it up and clean it with rubbing alcohol as a start.
