except when you have the same bloody thing on repeat in your head....drives me nuts
You mean when your bladder wakes you from a deep sleep and then suddenly there's that 9am meeting front of mind too? The next time that happens remember this, you'll have a chuckle and fall straight back to sleep... @satanboy Sent from my GM1910 using Tapatalk

Chinese version has a special state approved OS, called HydrogenOS iirc.
Ah ok. If it's much cheaper I don't see the problem losing the warranty. I've never had new electronics break. 10-15 years later, sure.

Looks like I'm behind the times, HydrogenOS has been merged into OxygenOS now, from what I can see.

Maybe not, OnePlus still talks about H2OS

Having said that, sometimes the China version misses frequencies used on the Global/Euro version.

Yes, because it has to be reflashed with OxygenOS and effectively has no warranty.
No local support for Oneplus in SA anyways so if I had a faulty import I would have to ship it back to the Chinese supplier I bought it from. They would repair under warranty yes, but the process would probably take months and cost thousands with no guarantee of a favourable outcome!!

Are you saying the reflashing process would void the warranty? Quite possible... haven't really researched that though...

Most makers void warranty for unauthorised software flashing, OnePlus also only offer warranty if bought direct or from an authorised seller, and only in the country the product is sold.

The cost of sending an item by a tracked method (ie courier) to China is usually so expensive as to make the idea uneconomical.

With all things Google being banned in China, I think HydrogenOS will be around for a while yet... no biggie...

Pretty sure they have a thing called an international warranty so if you buy on Amazon, Gearbest etc you covered... Oxygen OS isn't unauthorized software.

No international warranty with OnePlus, it's specifically excluded in their terms, and buying from an unauthorised retailer (I don't think the Amazon retailers or Gearbest are authorised, I cant find them on the website).

Moreso, China versions are excluded from the standard warranty offered on the other versions, if you can read Chinese you could check at oneplus.cn
