I am relatively happy with our load shedding prep in the house now.
we have a small 200W portable power station to run the home office for a load shedding stint. its enough to manage the screens and charge the laptops if needed.
the lounge, dining room, office and bathroom all have LED bulbs with rechargeable batteries in them.
the little power station can run the TV and the sound bar if needed, but honestly it wont be needed. we would just run a laptop to watch stuff if we wanted to.
is the portable power station the best option? no it has the wrong battery tech and its not going to last more than 2 years at the current load shedding rate, but it was affordable and does the job. we got the magneto ones from game but its good enough for right now

Can't you check on your system (when the power is supposed to be off) if you are receiving any Eskom power?

The battery bulbs were my best purchase (already had a 20 year old 200W inverter setup). But there is a lot of crap sold for cheap, I opted for these more expensive UK made bulbs:

having no real point to compare to I just went with one that was actually suggested by takelot
